Maximo Laura, world famous weaver.

Last week while we were in Ayacucho we were fortunate enough to visit an exhibition of Maximo Laura’s weavings. We saw some of his works earlier this year in Arequipa and to say the least they are truly amazing. His intricate use of varying colours to create depth is unbelievable. I have taken the following narrative from one of the relevant websites.
“Maximo Laura is one of South America's most accomplished weavers. Laura is a fifth-generation master weaver who inherited from his parents and grandparents – as did all the master weavers from Ayacucho, Peru – the traditional style of ancient weaving called cumbimayocs. But while he is ultimately respectful of the icons and colors of the ancient Huari culture, which predates the Inca culture, it is his juxtaposition of those traditions with his own design elements and narrative that have earned him many international awards, distinctions and exhibits. Maximo has taken the tapestry weave to a different level. He is constantly enhancing his unique technique of raising the weft to create incredible depth to his tapestries. Maximo is a scholar of textile art and has travelled the world exploring and teaching in his field.”
His website is – http://www.maximolaura.com/ and is well worth checking.

The fading effect has all been achieved by weaving with different shades of wool.
