The artesan markets of Miraflores, Lima.

Almost anyone who visits Lima will more than likely end up at the Artesan Markets in Miraflores. It really is one of the main areas for tourists to shop. Just get yourself to Avenida Petit Thouars in Miraflores and you will be right among a large number of extensive markets.

Beware, it looks as though some serious shopping is about to occur.

All types of Peruvian artesania are available here, including woollen goods, art work, craftwork, silverware and gem stones. Some of the best in Peru are here on Avenida Petit Thouars. Just to wander the stalls and be part of the atmosphere is fun, even if the constant invitations to visit and buy can become a little tedious.
Possibly sometimes the most trying time is waiting for family members to make up their minds on the colour and style and then haggle over the purchase price!

The various markets cover examples of works from the various Peruvian civilizations such as Moche, Chimu, Chachapoyan and Inca. You must try to understand that these periods ranged from 2500 BC to the slaying of the Inca King, Atahualpa, in 1533 AD. Archeologists are continually discovering that these civilizations were some of the most sophisticated during those specific times.
